AGM 2010

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION
Dear members,
The 2010 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Herts Canoe Lifeguards will take
place on Monday 29 March 2010 at Herts Young Mariners Base (HYMB). The
meeting will commence promptly at 19:30 and all members are asked to attend
- please make a note in your diary.
One of the main functions of the AGM is the election of members to the
General Committee, which is responsible for the conduct and affairs of the
unit. As required by the BCU Constitution, the committee must consist of a
Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and other officers as deemed necessary.
Our General Committee commonly comprises the following posts; manned by
volunteer members:
Chairperson
Hon Secretary
Hon Treasurer
Patrol Officer
Training Officer
Equipment Officer
Publicity Officer
Rookie Division Manager
Rookie Representative
One other elected member.
The committee is responsible for implementing BCU policies concerned with
the welfare of the unit’s members. In order to ensure policies are
effectively implemented, the 2010 AGM will see a Welfare Officer elected.
Nominations for the above positions must be put forward in the form of a
motion. In other words, the unit members must in effect vote to elect
members to these posts. On the night of the AGM, members will be given the
opportunity to volunteer themselves for committee posts and members will
then be requested to vote for whom they would like to see on the committee.
Regretfully, last year there was a shortage of volunteers necessary for
filling all posts. If you are keen to be more involved with the unit then
please consider putting yourself forward for election at the AGM. The
attached document gives a brief description of each role.
The AGM is also a good opportunity to put questions to the committee. If you have any questions about being elected to the committee or the roles you could do ask any of the existing members over the next few weeks.
